We know starting a new home improvement project sparks many questions, so we have provided you with answers to our most common questions. However, if you don't see your question answered here please give us a call, we are here to assist you before, during and after the sale.

How do we determine size?
For a patio use a garden hose to aid you in laying the area out. Then decide if it needs to be increased or decreased to accommodate your furniture and grilling needs. We recommend no less than 250 square feet (approximately 17x15).

For drive extensions determine what is comfortable to you when exiting your vehicle. Try to keep in mind how different weather conditions may affect the needed width. The average width is 2 feet.

For service walks typically 3 foot is the standard width.

For entry walks we recommend no less than 4 feet to accommodate side by side walking and give the look of a grand entry as opposed to the standard 3-foot walk.

How do we determine cost?
This is a very difficult question for us to answer without seeing the area and having an idea of what you are prepared to spend. There are many variables involved with each application, which in turn creates a different bidding process for each job.

What we typically recommend is that you first determine what it is you're looking for and specify the range of funds you are working with for your enhancement. We will design accordingly.

When do we have a professional consultant out to our home?
You know it's time to invite a professional consultant into your home when you've done the layout and determined what you are looking for, it helps if you also have an idea of the range of funds you are working with.

It's also a good time to invite a professional consultant into your home if you aren't sure exactly what it is you want. We can help you to find the best solutions to solve your landscaping needs.

What happens when we bring your measurements back to the office?
First, your consultant reviews your project with the estimator and develops your design. Then your estimate is put together based off your conceptual design. Finally, your consultant will review to ensure all of your requests have been met prior to our follow up appointment.

What is efflorescence and what can I do about it?
Efflorescence is the white blush or powdered like substance that appears on pavers. It is a free lime generated by aggregates and the cement within the product. These calcium deposits work through the product from the inside to the top surface of the pavers. In time, through the natural weathering process, this deposit wears off. Cleaners can also be purchased to remove efflorescence, if you prefer.

When can I seal my pavers?
We typically recommend waiting until all of the efflorescence has worked its way through the paver or at least one season. If efflorescence is present, it may take 18 to 24 months to wear off without the use of cleaners.

What are the advantages to sealing my pavers?

  • Minimizes weeds and ants
  • Minimizes the wear and dirt on pavers from traffic and weather, keeping the original color vibrant.
  • Holds sand in the joints between the pavers.

To remove snow from your pavers you can use de-icing salts, shovels, and plows like you would with any other pavement. You can also install electric or liquid snow-melting systems, which eliminate plowing while reducing slip hazards.

What do I do to replenish my joint sand?
In some instances the sand between the joints of the pavers may be lost due to driving winds or runoff. In those instances use play sand or a multi-purpose sand and sweep it in the joints with a broom.

Pavers can easily be removed for access to underground utilities and reinstated after repairs have been completed.
